The Crate & Barrel Feature

Curating my living room has been one of my favorite projects since I moved into my condo in 2019. Every living room has that one anchor piece that ties the entire room together and for me, the crate & barrel feature is my pride and joy. I purchased the Knox entertainment center during summer 2018. My mission over the past few years has been to find the perfect little touches to decorate this beautiful entertainment center.

What I love about the Knox’s design is how clean and simple it is. The lightly stained wood gives off an earthy and natural look while the iron brings in a modern and bold contrast. The entertainment center is customizable with different bookshelves and interchangeable options. You can choose sleek open shelving or concealed cabinet doors for your bookcases. I went for the open shelving bookcases because I know I have a serious addiction to home décor. The entire entertainment center is the focal point of my living room. It’s the main attraction of the space. Each little nook and corner is decorated to perfection. The Knox Media Console is 112” in width and 78” in height; it definitely makes a statement in the living room. My space is very long and wide so this entertainment center was the perfect choice!

Recently I added a few modern touches to the feature wall. The Gwyneth Chair from CB2 now shines brightly in the corner of my living room. It’s a swivel chair so you can turn and enjoy the beautiful views of Montrose Harbor right outside my window. The gorgeous boucle creamy fabric was the perfect contrast to my dark mocha stained wood floors. I love the beautiful texture it adds tot he space. I paired the bold Taylor Bone Inlay Side Table with this fun swivel chair and they juxtapose each other wonderfully. I love the soft and warm nature of the chair mixed with the harsh and geometric lines of the side table. I added a few old painted vases from Anthropologie and a fun new candle stick holder from a cute shop in Logan Square called Fleur. I love exploring small businesses all over Chicago and hunting for unique décor for my home. You never know what your going to stumble upon.

The majority of the décor in this room is black and white with subtle pops of gold and green. Dried eucalyptus is placed all throughout my living room to ground the space. As much as I love real plants, my radiator heat tends to murder any and all living things. Faux greenery was definitely the right move in this space. One of my favorite pieces on my entertainment center are these beautiful white ceramic hurricanes from Anthropologie. However my favorite little spot of all time has to be one of the shelves on the left hand side. I found a prism iron lantern at Pier 1 and a cute little succulent form Crate and Barrel to put inside. When I was in Italy a few years go, I purchased a painting from a local artist of The Duomo and I can’t help but love it. Michael’s had the perfect live wood edge frame for this piece of art. I think this little nook really set the overall tone of my décor style.

You will never find everything right away when I comes to decorating a room. Curating your space over time is the key to making your space gorgeous. The amount of trips I took to Michaels, TjMaxx, Crate & Barrel, CB2, Fleur, Foursided, Pier 1, Kohls, Trader Joe’s, Anthropologie and Target were endless. All I can say is that all great things take time, so don’t rush and enjoy making your space truly unique and 100% yours.
